北京大学迁到西郊后遇见中学同学姚子范，1952

免遭战火湘西住，

有幸同窗相处。

一别数年未晤，

犹记沅江渡。

燕园遍地丁香树，

春到莺飞蝶舞。

莫让时光辜负，

留梦京郊路。

姚子范，湖南醴陵人，长作者一岁，1950年考取清华大学经济系。1952年院系调整，清华大学经济系并入北京大学经济系。

Thinking of an Old Friend in Taoyuan

—Meeting my middle-school fellow Yao Zifan after Peking

University moved to the western suburb, 1952

In western Hunan we lived, warfare to avoid,

Lucky to have you by my side.

For years departed and unmet,

The memory of Yuanjiang sticks in my mind.

Lilac trees spread all over the Yan Garden wide,

Where warblers fl y and butterfl ies dance in spring tide.

Do not idle away and bide,

Leaving dreams unfulfilled on the countryside.

Yao Zifan, a native of Liling, Hunan province, is a year older than Li. He was admitted to the Economic Department of Tsinghua University in 1950. When the departments and schools were adjusted in 1952, the Economic Department of Tsinghua University was merged into the Economic Department of Peking
