燕子多情绕故城，

杨花飞尽了无声，

夜阑人静听残更。

又是池塘春水绿，

几回天外鹊桥横，

半庭青草为谁生？

Over the old town swallows affectionately hover,

Poplar catkins in silence fl y into thin air,

In the dead of night I am a lonely listener.

Once more the pool is emerald with spring water,

How many times did the magpie bridge spanned yonder,

For whom the green grass grows, half of the yard over?

The author and his wife lived apart after marriage. This poem was written to express his lovesickness.
